Prayer Gate: pray before opening an app

Choose the apps that distract you and the times you want to pray; Sacred keeps them closed until you have prayed.

Updated October 27, 2026

Prayer Gate keeps the apps that pull you in — social media, games, whatever you choose — closed at your prayer times, and opens them again once you’ve prayed.

Set it up

  1. Open Prayer and tap Prayer Gate.
  2. Tap Add App to Block and pick the apps you want to pause.
  3. Under Prayer Time, add up to three times a day. The same times apply on every device you’re signed in to.
  4. Turn the prayer lock on.

Pray to unlock

At each prayer time, Sacred sends a reminder and the chosen apps close. Opening one of them brings you to the prayer gate:

  1. Tell Sacred how you’re feeling, or skip.
  2. Read the prayer it offers — it appears a line at a time, so take it slowly.
  3. Tap Amen once the short minimum time has passed. Your apps open again and a verse closes the moment.

The lock returns at your next prayer time. If you can’t pray right now, tap Remind me in 15 minutes; if you truly need an app, Emergency Unlock opens everything for a while — it’s limited to a few uses a day.

Grant permission

Prayer Gate needs permission to notice when a protected app opens:

  • Android — allow usage access and, when asked, display over other apps.
  • iPhone/iPad — allow Screen Time access when prompted.

Sacred uses this only to show the prayer gate — it never reads what you do in other apps. If you decline, you can enable it later in your device settings.

On your home screen

Add the Sacred widget to see your prayer streak, whether your apps are locked and your next prayer time. Tapping it opens the prayer gate.

Remove a block

Open Prayer Gate, choose an app and tap Remove Block, or turn the prayer lock off to pause it for every app.

Free and Premium

The free version lets you protect a limited number of apps. Sacred Premium removes the limit, so you can guard as many as you like.
